About Keira

Keira came to us from Mexico where she was rescued from an uninhabited house along with her puppies (whom we hope to bring to Canada in the future). Keira was skinny, but she was taking care of her babies the best she could. Despite her past abandonment, Keira’s fosters describe her as generally a happy little dog and assume she was once someone’s pet.

Keira is very sweet and has a gentle nature, along with being smart and eager to please—she learned to “sit” within days of her arrival! Keira is very trainable and listens well when corrected. She is also super quiet and hardly ever barks–not even when the doorbell rings!

Keira plays well with the other dog in her foster home, and when she’s tired of playing, she’ll let her know that she’s had enough by retreating to her crate. She also enjoys napping in her crate, which is her safe place, or in a warm, sunny spot. Head rubs and cuddles are the way to Keira’s heart as she loves affection.

Curious about the world and delightfully energetic, Keira is fascinated by gardens and will likely volunteer to help you harvest your crop of root vegetables in the fall (in other words, she will dig up your plants if left unattended)! Keira enjoys the space and freedom provided by a fenced yard, but she needs supervision outside to not only protect the garden but also to ensure that she remains contained. She’s a small dog with a spring in her tail and can easily clear a 3-foot fence, which potential adopters should keep in mind. She needs lots of different outlets for her energy, which can include walks, playtime, and zooming around the backyard!

Keira would do equally well with another dog in the home as she would with being an only dog since she’s both dog social and people oriented, making her an easy addition to most loving homes.

After all the hard work that Keira put into keeping her puppies safe and sound, now it’s her turn to be taken care of!
